Don't Let This Little Buddy Fall a Height V1

Hi there, Umam here.

This is my first project after experimenting several times using the Godot Engine. What I've learned has been quite exciting for me. I'll share some of the things I did in creating this project.

Idea exploration and initial concept: I started searching for game ideas that would be fun to develop. The first idea I conceptualized was a character that could throw an object to be stepped on to reach a target. I began by adding trajectory lines similar to the game Steamworld Heist. And it took me a long time to develop it.

After trying it out, it turned out the concept wasn't as fun as I had imagined. I started trying out other concepts while beginning to develop the game.

Character design: I was inspired by several tutorials and began developing the character and its animations. What I learned was consistency in using colors or color palettes. I designed using Aseprite and started designing some tiles like blocks, spikes, flags, and other environmental elements. I chose the blue color like that because I was inspired by NES games where the colors weren't too many but the details looked good.

Initial Development: After searching for concepts and initial designs, I began developing this game with a focus on game expansion, making it easier to update levels in the future. During the development process, there were several things I removed, one of which was the trajectory line. This line served as a guide for players to see where the character would land when jumping. However, for me, this would make the game too easy because players would know what they need to do.

Additionally, the arrow direction was initially set to be controlled with the arrow keys, and once again, this was not simple and was complicated. Finally, I came up with the formula of using only one button, which is space to jump (or mouse click). I wanted to develop this game as simple as possible yet still enjoyable.

Further Development: Because I've set up the level designer to be easily developed, there will be new levels every week, with a minimum of 5 levels. I also plan to introduce several new obstacle mechanisms and challenges to make the game more engaging.
